PewDiePie Biography
Felix (aka PewDiePie) started his career on YouTube by making his channel in 2006. He originally named his account “Pewdie”; he explained later that ‘pew’ represented the sound of lasers in games and ‘die’ means dying (when the laser hits).
Unfortunately, he forgot the password to that account so he registered another YouTube channel on 29 April 2010 under the name of “PewDiePie”. Initially he would post videos of himself playing horror and action video games as a part of his ‘Let’s Play’ series.
His channel started growing and soon became one of the fastest growing channels in 2012-13. He became the most-subscribed YouTuber on 15 August 2013.
With time, his content changed as well. He started including shorts, formatted shows, vlogs and music videos. From 2015 to 2018, he shifted away from his Let’s play series and became a subject of increasing media controversies.
Now, most of his content can be thought of as reacting and reviewing videos. He uploads a lot of meme review videos where he reacts to and reviews memes Redditors post on his subreddit.
He has three video series: You Laugh You Lose, Last week I asked you, Yesterday I asked You and Meme reviews.
In 2019, he got embroiled in an online subscriber competition with the Indian music label, T-series. He made two diss tracks attacking the company but he was harshly criticised for including ‘racist and demeaning’ lyrics against Indians in the songs.
He later clarified that he had no such intention of hurting Indian sentiments or meant to attack T-series specifically. He just did not agree with the future of Youtube where the highest subscribed Youtube channel belonged to a multi-million dollar corporate company, not an artistic individual.
PewDiePie Facts
He made the PewdiePie channel on 29 April 2010 because he forgot the password for his previous channel ‘pewdie’.
In 2015, he released his own game called “PewDiePie: The Legend of the Brofist” where you have to save the ‘bros’ i.e. PewDiePie’s fans from the Evil Barrel Army. The next year he released “PewDiePie’s Tuber Simulator” which is a community game where you create your own youtuber.
In 2016, PewDiePie was named as one of the World’s 100 most influential people.
He has published his own book called “This Book Loves you” on 15 October 2015, which was a satire on other inspirational books.
He gives money to a lot of charities. Even during his over-hyped online battle with T-series, he streamed an almost 3-hour long video where he fund-raised money to donate to CRY(an Indian charitable organisation for children).
He once suffered from a whiskey addiction.
PewDiePie Recent Updates
PewDiePie had landed himself in a legal battle with T-series because of his two diss tracks. He recently settled this legal fight but the songs still remain blocked in India.
He donated $50,000 to Anti-Defamation League after hitting the 100M subscriber count on his channel. Many fans were confused about his decisions as ADL had criticised Felix in the past with false accusations. But Felix has clarified that he wants to forget and move on from the past which is why he decided to donate.
