Until 1977, Côté taught beginner acting and improvisation at the Option Theatre in Ste. Therese. He later co-founded Vogagements, a tiny theatre. Côté began appearing in the play Broue at the theatre in 1979; the production was scheduled to run for one month but ended up being played in several locations across Canada, and Cote continued to participate in all of the more than 2,000 performances until 2008.
