Acting Career
Fernandez went to India for a modelling assignment in 2009. She was cast in Sujoy Ghosh’s fantasy film Aladin (2009) after a good audition. She portrayed the love interest of Riteish Deshmukh’s character, Princess Jasmine, and CNN-Rajeev IBN’s Masand said she was “easy on the eyes and seems confident but has precious little to do.” She earned the IIFA Award for Star Debut of the Year – Female despite the film’s critical and commercial disaster.
In the science-fiction love comedy Jaane Kahan Se Aayi Hai, Fernandez starred with Deshmukh in 2010. She plays a Venusian girl who comes to Earth in pursuit of love. The film, as well as Fernandez’s performance, garnered mixed reviews; Sukanya Verma of Rediff.com wrote: “She enjoys making a fool of herself by imitating movie celebrity movements, like Sridevi’s Naagin dance, Mithun Chakravarthy’s Disco Dancer moves, and Big B’s violent headshake in Hum. If Jaane Kahan Se Aayi Hai wasn’t so keen on making her into a love-struck Barbie, her Tara may be a keeper.” Anupama Chopra, another reviewer, slammed Fernandez, describing her as “a pin-prick on a balloon.” Later that year, she had a cameo appearance in Sajid Khan’s comedy Housefull’s song “Dhanno.”
